James K. Glassman, Chairman and CEO
Jim has won wide respect across three areas: media, business, and government. He served as under secretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, leading the U.S. Government’s international strategic communications effort. Among his accomplishments at the State Department was bringing new Internet technology to bear on outreach efforts. He was confirmed unanimously by the U.S. Senate and holds the lifetime rank of ambassador.
He was also chairman of the U.S. Broadcasting Board of Governors, which directs all non-military, taxpayer-funded international broadcasting, including Voice of America, Radio Free Europe, and Alhurra TV.
On August 31, 2013, he completed four years as founding executive director of the George W. Bush Institute, building the policy innovation arm of President Bush’s library and museum complex in Dallas. He is now a visiting fellow at the American Enterprise Institute, where he served as a fellow or senior fellow for 11 years.
He has been moderator of three weekly television programs: Ideas in Action and TechnoPolitics on PBS and Capital Gang Sunday on CNN. And he is an experienced publishing executive, having been publisher of the New Republic, president of the Atlantic Monthly, executive vice president of U.S. News & World Report, and editor of Roll Call. He was a columnist for the Washington Post for 11 years and has written three books on finance. He has published more than 2,000 articles in the past 15 years in the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, and elsewhere. He has also given more than 500 speeches, in such venues as the National Press Club, Detroit Economic Club, and Chatham House in London.
In April 2012, he was appointed to the Investor Advisory Committee of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. He was formerly a member of the Policy Advisory Board of Intel Corporation and a senior advisor to AT&T and SAP America.
He holds a B.A., cum laude, from Harvard University, where he was managing editor of the daily newspaper, The Crimson.
Rick Shapiro, President
Rick began his work on complex public policy issues almost 30 years ago and much of his career has been focused on energy and natural resources issues. More recently, Mr. Shapiro has been extensively involved in health care policy issues and related advocacy campaigns.
Before joining PAE, Mr. Shapiro was a senior member of the team at Quinn Gillespie and Associates, managing energy and resource management issues for Fortune 500 clients. Prior to that role, he served as executive vice president of public affairs for CEMEX’s U.S. operations and was responsible for the company’s governmental affairs, communications and community relation’s functions. Mr. Shapiro also led a multi-year legislative and regulatory campaign for market-oriented reforms in the electricity and natural gas sectors while a managing director of government and regulatory affairs for a major energy company.
Mr. Shapiro received his Bachelors degree with Honors from James Madison University and a J.D. with High Honors from the University of Connecticut School of Law and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Gilliam Center for Free Enterprise and Ethical Leadership at James Madison University. Mr. Shapiro resides in The Woodlands, Texas, with his wife Amy, his sons Ben and Jonny, and Shih Tzu Milani.
Beneva Schulte, Senior Vice President
Beneva Schulte is a Senior Vice President at PAE, managing strategic communications and public policy campaigns for corporate clients. Bringing more than 20 years of experience to the firm, Ms. Schulte successfully develops and manages multi-faceted public affairs efforts that range from high-profile national earned media campaigns to targeted local efforts.
Before joining PAE, Ms. Schulte had her own consulting firm and provided communications strategy for a variety of diverse clients, serving as a strategic communications advisor and spokesperson for FM Policy Focus, a coalition of seven associations of financial services companies actively engaged in the mortgage industry. She was also the Chief Deputy Director for the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission and a political editor for National Public Radio news magazine, Tell Me More with Michel Martin. She was Communications Director on the Dodd for President Campaign and Chief of Staff to Representative Carolyn McCarthy (D-NY).
Ms. Schulte received a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy at George Washington University in D.C. and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Florida International University in Miami, Florida. She currently lives in Maryland with her husband, Paul Orzulak and their three daughters.
Elizabeth Heaton, Senior Director
Elizabeth Heaton has more than 10 years of experience in media relations and public affairs. In her current position, Ms. Heaton oversees media strategy and public affairs implementation on a wide range of campaigns. She focuses on energy, telecom, healthcare and retail issues.
Prior to this, Ms. Heaton worked for the DCI Group, the nation’s fourth largest independent communications consulting and public affairs firm. She also worked at the Electric Power Supply Association, a national trade association serving competitive power suppliers active in U.S. and global power markets; the U.S. Department of Justice, where she worked as a senior advisor in the Office of Justice Programs; and the National Cable & Telecommunications Association, the principal trade association of the cable industry in the United States.
Ms. Heaton began her professional career working at the White House in 2003. Her political experience also includes work with various political campaigns around the country.
Originally from Grand Rapids, Ms. Heaton is a graduate from the University of Michigan, where she received her B.A. in political science. She and her husband, Dave, live in Columbia, South Carolina.
Travis Worl, Senior Director
Travis Worl manages multi-faceted issue advocacy campaigns for PAE’s clients focused on federal and state legislative affairs and grassroots mobilization. Travis has extensive experience in the health care industry, electricity market reform and nonprofit advocacy. He has also developed programs with state-based grassroots outreach, establishing national coalitions and executing governmental relations strategies involving a number of other high profile issues.
Before joining PAE, Travis worked for then Senator Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign as a Field Director during the competitive Iowa Caucuses and Advance Operative in several others states. Travis has managed or consulted on several other political and grassroots campaigns, directing or advising candidates and organizations at every level from town council to U.S. Senate, as well as working abroad in Australia.
Travis is a graduate of Purdue University in Indiana as well as Washington D.C.’s George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management.
A native Hoosier, Travis now lives in Northwest Washington, DC and is an active runner, triathlete and competitive obstacle race runner.
Aaron Alberico, Account Manager
Aaron Alberico is an Account Manager, assisting in multiple aspects of public policy campaigns for corporate clients. Mr. Alberico has a diverse background in government affairs and grassroots advocacy campaigns.
Mr. Alberico received a B.A. in political science with a concentration in American Government from American University. While in school Mr. Alberico received the 2012 Gold Pollie Award for Student Overall Campaign Plan awarded by the American Association of Political Consultants.
Christophe Hollocou, Project Manager
Christophe Hollocou is a Project Manager at Public Affairs Engagement, assisting in numerous aspects of public policy campaigns for corporate clients. Drawing on experience as an organizer and campaign operative, Christophe brings knowledge of grassroots campaigns, messaging strategy and fundraising capabilities to PAE.
Mr. Hollocou is a graduate of the George Washington University, with his B.A. in Political Science and International Relations. While he is a native New Yorker, in the past fours years Christophe has lived in New York, Colorado, Paris and Washington DC.
Paul’s involvement in public affairs spans nearly 25 years and all aspects of health policy and public affairs campaigns. Mr. Cantrell’s experience also includes service as Director of the Georgia Insurance Department’s Life and Health Division where he advised the Insurance Commissioner on health policy matters and represented the department before the Georgia General Assembly as well as various state and federal agencies and NGOs.
Before joining PAE as Senior Counselor, Paul held corporate public affairs’ leadership positions and managed complex state and federal communications, grassroots advocacy, and alliance engagement efforts over 15 years with Humana.
Mr. Cantrell draws upon this broad range of experiences to design and manage creative public affairs campaigns. As president of Clear View Strategies, LLC, Paul works closely with PAE to develop strategies and deliver results for a wide range of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
Paul holds a Bachelor of Science degree from James Madison University. He and his wife, Beth, live in central Virginia and are proud parents of a son and daughter. Paul enjoys kayaking, hiking, gardening and is an active volunteer with local aging and environmental groups.
Bill Greener is a founding partner of the firm, Greener and Hook, LLC, a communications and political consulting firm servicing individual companies, trade associations, ad-hoc organizations and Republican candidates for political office. In operation since May of 1998, Greener and Hook has attracted a wide array of both corporate and political clients.
Throughout his nearly 30 years in the communications and political consulting fields, Greener has set the standard for uncovering solutions while developing a reputation for putting together winning strategies when communications is the key to victory in a political arena. He has an extensive background in dealing with situations that involve balancing public opinion, public policy and political considerations.
A 1972 graduate of Washington and Lee University with graduate-level studies in psychology at Miami of Ohio University, Greener serves on the faculty of the George Washington University’s Graduate School of Political Management (GSPM). He is active in youth sports, coaching both basketball and baseball. Greener is a member of the Church of the Covenant (Presbyterian USA) where he has served as an elder and deacon, as well as Sunday School teacher.
Greener resides in Marshall, Virginia with his wife Leigh Ann and they have four children, Rebecca, Billy, Ted, and Jesse.
